Responding to Racism With Action, Information, and Education

JoinMeNow, Inc. is a California-based nonprofit corporation established in the fall of 2020, just after the brutality that caused the death of George Floyd. The formation of our group is an urgent response amongst Youngsters appalled at the reality of hate, racism, and violence.

Meet the Team: Empowering Other Youths

Believing that there was a need to create and sustain good race relations, indeed a clarion call for action and accountability, these young citizens decided to create a forum to recommend easy and practical steps for a better tomorrow.

SADE

I became inspired to discuss race relations as there is a country-wide reckoning on race expressed partially by riots that erupted in the summer of 2020, after the violent killing of George Floyd. I am now more inspired by the election of Kamala Harris as the Vice President. This is a woman of Black and Asian descent just like me—my father, a Nigerian-American, and my mother an Indonesian-American.

As I identify as a Black American, I want to be sure that during my time, I am not judged by the color of my skin—but rather, by my abilities. Advancement and flourishing in this country should not be about race. I believe this is possible during my generation and I’d like to contribute to the necessary discussion, as I believe the country will definitely be better off when we all receive the respect and recognition we truly deserve.

I am so delighted to be part of JoinMeNow, Inc. as it embarks upon the important civic commitment of encouraging people of all races to imagine a better tomorrow through timely conversations that will strengthen better relations during my time on this earth.

I believe the process is quite simple. We all have to be open-minded, and through purposeful effort, we can build long-term empathy that lasts a lifetime. I don’t think people like to hurt others just to care less. It’s the choice they made along the way. My hope is that we can be more caring for each other by being kinder, more respectful, and fairer in our dealings with one another.

It certainly will be wonderful if we can develop these ideals and people of all races will emerge stronger and more confident.

I think too often people find it difficult to understand people who aren’t like us but find it easy to hate them. I don’t think living should be this way. We need to be eager to learn more about people, especially people of other races, that we encounter and get to know what molds them. We need to eliminate bias and prejudice and become more open-minded in our views.

I am a panelist at JoinMeNow, Inc. as I believe the organization is emerging as an organization that embraces my view and making available the opportunity to have conversations on what is ideal when it comes to race relations.

People that know me generally state that I have greatness in me. I am confident that great things will be happening in my life. I have a vision of what my life and the future is going to look like as I work hard daily to achieve my goals in life.

However, I am very much aware of some kids like me that live in fear every day, mostly because of the color of their skin. I welcome the idea of reaching out (through JoinMeNow, Inc.) to those that seem to be feeling hopeless and depressed; advising them that they need to be resilient and know that their best years are ahead…and they can change their mindset from fearful to determined.
